Our New Happy Sleeper + Dockatot review

It’s no new news that we have been on the struggle bus when it comes to sleeping. My son had previously refused any attempts at sleep training we have made. For the first three months I was completely fine with that. We both got the maximum amount of sleep and I never had to leave my bed to nurse him at all. At the risk of sounding like a snob, I didn’t for a second worry about rolling onto him or having him fall out the bed. Yet having him tucked close was a little hard when it became clear that I was his “pacifier” for any and all things sleeping related.

Chi was a great sleeper (when in our bed), but he also is a great snuggle bug. He liked feeling close to my body and feeling secure with my arm wrapped around him.  Which I admittedly take responsibility for because he is my first baby and I kept him close for naps and sleep in the early weeks after we brought him home from the hospital. Around 5 months, I remember sitting in Monday Mom’s group and lamenting that my son was still in our bed. I was finally to the point where I was my space back. I wanted to fall into a deep sleep, which is next to impossible when you have a child next to you. I went home that morning  determined that we were going to start sleep training that night. I researched every method that I was comfortable with (and some that I wasn’t), to present to my husband when he arrived home. Ya’ll I was so desperate! We got more sleep in his newborn days then in that month of “sleep training”.

We tried the no-cry method, the attached parent method, we even tried the cry-it-out method. There were more tears (on both sides) and desperate failed attempts to get our son to sleep. I remember when we decided to take a break from any form of sleep training because we “may have to accept that this is how it will be.” I remember even journaling that I really hoped he wouldn’t be in our bed when he turned one. We could only hope for the best and hope that someday we would have a child that would sleep through the night with me. I was scrolling through Instagram one day and stumbled on this thing called the Docktot and I remember thinking, “What is that?”

Dockatot is a docking system for your child. Sounds a little funny to need a docking station for your child, right? But that is exactly what it is. Dockatot was designed in Sweden and made in Europe. It is multi-functional lounging, playing, resting, co-sleeping dock that you can take anywhere. It’s designed to create a cozy and safe surrounding for your child. So there is no need to worry of your child overheating or suffocating. It keeps babies and children calm by offering a mothers womb surrounding. It’s offered in two sizes for small babies and for older babies into small toddlers. We choose the Dockatot Grand size. Which will also be perfect when we want to transition him into a toddler bed. (Hashtag double win!) What I love about it was it is because it has been tested for breath-ability, your child will never overheat in it. Which is a major plus in my book because bed-sharing can sometimes be a little warm for all parties involved. It’s 100% all natural cotton which is great for my little sensitive skinned baby. They offer a variety of covers with adorable patterns that are all machine washable. They were kind enough to send me the Grand size* and we haven’t stopped using it since it arrived at our door.

I was a little skeptical of the Dockatot mainly because I’ve always been a minimalist at heart and I didn’t want to buy a Dock that my son would never use. The first night he protested the change for 49 minutes. By the next Thursday, he fell asleep in the Dockatot for all naps and all night. He still wakes up to nurse at least once a night but I will definitely take that over 5+ times. I have felt like a human who was able to function again. We all are getting the sleep we need and he is even in a better mood because of it. Every time I got to check on him, he is curled into the side of his Dockatot and sleeping so soundly. I attributed our success to The Dockatot for making him so comfy to sleep and rest. And to finally finding a method that worked for our little man.

Thank you so much Dockatot for giving our whole family the sleep that we need!

Tying you in,

Angel

I’m so glad the Dockatot worked for you! I remember being in the exact position you were in with our son. He was sleeping with me and using me as a pacifier every 40ish minutes all night. I was a zombie. The dockatot was a game changer for us!
